Peacemakers Celebrate Earth Day

The camping trip on Earth Day weekend was a blast! We all got to go swimming (the real brave hearts, that is) and go boating even though it was cold, and some of us tipped over in our boat. We also took hikes and got lost (and found our way back).

Before we went out to “Camp Hodge,” Gabriel, Akangbe, Ian, Lori, Hania, Adam, Herman, and Deonte gave out trees to visitors at Ocmulgee National Monument. We chose three trees to plant at Camp Hodge as a thank you for getting to have our campout there.

At the end of the day we had Peace Circle. Our assistant director for 2005, Gabriel Hill, started our circle by talking about the cycles of nature. Then we talked about why we observe Earth Day and each of us shared a special way we had connected with nature during the day. We welcomed Deonte Manson, Brendan Dyer, Jahi Mendes and his dad, Rudy Mendes, Hania Bisat, Loren Sumner and Jessica Sumner, who all had their first Camp Hodge experience.

We want to give a big THANK YOU! To Nicky and Gary, Maria Saavedra and Marla Hodge, for inviting us to Camp Hodge once again. It is a beautiful place to be outdoors! Many thanks also to Marla and Maria for donating the food we ate. Maria is a great grill master!
